ONTM was set up in 2003 as a private organisation for public benefit. It brings together all the tourist trades, regions and operators, and a representative of the tourism ministry sits on its board of directors. ONTM’s key mission is to promote the Madagascar destination, based on a partnership between the State and the private sector, and enhance Madagascar’s image in overseas markets.

This conservation mission suggests environmental education, the valorization of ecotourism and science and the equitable sharing of the benefits generated by protected areas with the riparian population.
